Sichuan has spectacular mountains, amazing canyons, bamboo forests, pandas and some of the best food in China. In the west of Sichuan is the eastern part of Tibet with the highest mountain at over 7000 meters. Here are some of the important temples, universities of Tibetan Buddhism and holy areas of the Tibetan people. The south part of Sichuan is home to mostly Yi people, which has its own unique language, writing system, clothing and customs. The area is a little lower then west Sichuan, but it still has some spectacular gorges, lakes and terraces laid out beautifully along the mountainsides. Many of these areas are among the most remote in China.
The capital of Sichuan is Chengdu, which has plenty of amazing places to try great food, walk through ancient streets and tea houses and do some good people watching in parks. Most of this area is pretty flat and within a day cycling you can reach some nice bamboo forests, lakes and ancient towns. Just browse through any of the photo galleries and you can see why traveling in Sichuan is so amazing.
